Speaking of roots

August 6, 2014 — 1 Comment

My blessing is on those people who trust in Me,
who put their confidence in Me.
They will be like a tree planted near a stream
whose roots spread out toward the water.
It has nothing to fear when the heat comes.
Its leaves are always green.
It has no need to be concerned in a year of drought.
It does not stop bearing fruit.

Jeremiah 17:7-9

“The tree on the mountain takes whatever the weather brings.
If it has any choice at all, it is in putting down roots as deeply as possible.”
Corrie ten Boom

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

One response to Speaking of roots

This is sooo good Annie! The Jeremiah 17 verse is almost identical to Psalm 1. Putting down roots for me has been continuing my daily, weekly and monthly rhythms with God. Sometimes I think my need for time with Jesus will be filled and I will once and for all be saturated with His love. But one thing that God is teaching me is exactly this- I need time to continually put down roots with Him. And like you experienced being in the US with the family, those times when things are busier than I’d like, I’m still green and bearing fruit because my roots are deep in the love and care of the Holy Spirit! SO mysterious and good God is!
