Speaking of being beloved

July 22, 2011 — Leave a comment

The voice that says ‘you are My beloved’ has always been there, but other, louder voices are saying ‘prove that you are worth something; do something relevant, spectacular, or powerful, then you will earn the love you so desire…
Every time you listen with great attentiveness to the voice that calls you the beloved, you will discover within yourself a desire to hear that voice longer and more deeply. It is like discovering a well in the desert.

Henri Nouwen

Shall I ever listen, as Eve did, to the serpent’s hiss of deceitful destruction?
The father of lies wraps words in figments of light to drag us downward to a certain darkness.
Yet there is One who speaks a more powerful word: Mercy triumphs over wrath.
“Let there be light!” My heart dances once more, sings the hallelujah!
So this gracious truth, this truthful grace, has silenced the foe again.
May I always trust, rest, bask, delight in my Father’s life and love.
It has become to me a thing of light.

from Virginia Knowles’ poem “It Became to Me a Dark Thing”

Let him lead me to the banquet hall,
and let his banner over me be love.

Song of Solomon 2:4

His banner over me is love

If God is for us, who can be against us?

For Me
I know that You’re there when I cry
With every heartbeat You’re there by my side
All that I am I give to You
cause I know You will break through
I give You my heart for I know that

You’re for me
I know that You’re for me
You’re for me

I know that You’re for me

I know that You’re there when I call
Your love to surround me
Your grace to restore
All that I am I give to You

For I know that You will break through
I give You my heart for I know that You

You’re for me
I know that You’re for me
You’re for me
