As a goal-oriented person, I found this quote by Oswald Chambers a good reminder for me as I head into the new year:
God’s purpose is that I depend on Him and on His power now. If I can stay in the middle of the turmoil calm and unperplexed, that is the end of the purpose of God.
God is not working towards a particular finish; His end is the process – that I see Him walking on the waves, no shore in sight, no success, no goal, just the absolute certainty that it is all right because I see Him walking on the sea.
It is the process, not the end, which is glorifying to God.
And then the hymn, “My Hope is Built” came up as I shuffled through a music mix, with these words:
When Darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand;
all other ground is sinking sand.
And one more good reminder:
I know not what the future holds,
but I know Who holds the future.
This Week’s Special
I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
