More on prayer

April 28, 2009 — Leave a comment

I’ve been rereading Abide in Christ by Andrew Murray and was struck by this comment on prayer:
prayer is not only a means of getting blessing for ourselves.
It is one of the chief channels of influence by which,
through us as fellow workers with God,
the blessings of Christ’s redemption are dispensed to the world.

Usually, when I pray, I’m bringing my concerns to God, rather than seeing myself as a channel through which God brings his blessing down.I liked the idea of prayer as a dispenser [which reminds me of a Pez dispenser]. It’s not just me coming to God, but God coming to me. That’s an echo of the ‘receiving in worship’ idea too.
I have a long way to grow in this: to let God minister to me and through me, rather than me going to God so I can get something to minister to others.
